The setting ...

Just a note that setting for Home are the nearby stars within fifteen light-years of Earth.  Wikipedia has a good summary of the nearby stars here, including 3-D charts.

Introducing Chapter 2 of Home: Interstellar

Well, here's the next chapter in our space opera.

Ten years after the attack on their merchant starship, the Princess, Meriel Hope still suffers from PTSD, but has put her life back together and earned a berth as a Cargo Chief on a new ship. Behind the scenes, unknown forces target the hulk of her old ship, the only asset of the surviving orphans. Meriel must find a way to save her ship and get the orphans back together to fulfill her mother's dying wish.

As If in God's Hands

The new page to the right is a short passage from the Diary of Neuchar de Merlner, an ecstatic poet who found success after exile on Europa in 2036.

Physical books were very rare by the time Meriel received the volume - there was not much need to push a pound of mass around the galaxy when photons were free. But Meriel Hope's grandmother thought it valuable enough to keep it with her and pass it on to Meriel's mother, Esther, who then gave it to her best friend Teddy. Teddy in turn gave it to Meriel.

Of most interest to me in writing Meriel's story, is that her most heart felt wish, her goal to find a safe home for her sister and friends, is set early in her life and she acts consistent with that goal. Rather than inspire her, the passage from de Merlner describes her. And rather than seeing herself as a hero, she understands that her goal may overwhelm her, but she can do no other and be true to herself.

The start of it all ...

Home: Interstellar is in it's final edits and I want to share parts of it with you. Yeah, they're teasers, but I am genuinely interested in your comments.

The first entry is Chapter 1 of the story that, for Meriel Hope, changes the rest of her life. This is posted to the right side under "The Story."

Soon to come is the story of "The Death of LeoV." This event occurs just after the start of the novel. Leo V is a corporate lawyer, or "fixer," that assists the Chairman of BioLuna Corporation in, let's say, the more discrete projects.
